The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of opposition parties, has extended the deadline for finalising its ‘final strategy’ to oust the PTI-led government until next month.

“On December 6, all constituent parties will make their recommendations at a conference of top leadership, and then final policy and major announcements will be made,” PDM leader Maulana Fazl Ur Rehman said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a press conference in Islamabad after a meeting of PDM constituent party leaders failed to reach an agreement on a long march and mass resignations from assemblies to overthrow Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.

Fazl Ur Rehman claimed that the anti-government coalition will “soon” seek to depose the PTI government in order to “liberate the country from tyranny.”

During a recent joint sitting of the parliament, the JUI-F chairman also slammed the government for “bulldozing” laws related to abroad Pakistanis’ voting rights, electronic voting machines (EVM), and other issues.

“By passing these laws, the administration attempted to deprive Pakistan’s Election Commission of its authority… the laws are in violation of the Constitution,” he continued.

Fazl Ur Rehman called the use of EVMs in the next general elections “pre-poll rigging,” claiming that the entire globe has abandoned the technology.

“By promising 10 million jobs to the country’s youth, this government committed a historic scam,” he said, adding that the PTI government’s intention to give expats voting rights was nothing more than an attempt to rig the next elections.

“We believe Pakistanis living abroad to be a valuable asset to the country… He went on to say, “We will introduce our own legislation in accordance with the law and the Constitution.”

Fazl Ur Rehman commented on the leaked audio conversation of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and the affidavit of ex-top judge of Gilgit-top Baltistan’s court Rana Shamim, saying the revelations cast doubt on the judiciary’s independence.

“Judicial confidence must be restored by their actions,” he said. “The plots to depose previous Prime Minister [Nawaz Sharif] and others were essentially plots against the country and democracy,” the JUI-F leader remarked.
