Prime Minister Imran Khan stated Friday that although the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) labels the PTI-led government “fascist,” the party itself is “greater than that,” as he attacked PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s audio tape on the denial of advertisements to media outlets.

As reported by reliable sources, the premier said that the audio recording had revealed their [the PML- N’s] secrets. He also questioned the PML-N leader’s authority to make such directions in the first place.

According to the sources, the premier said at a party meeting: “They [the PML-N] claim that we place limitations on the media and label us fascists; yet, they are more fascist than we are.”

Following the release of a viral audio recording in which Maryam Nawaz could be heard ordering someone to turn down commercials for four television networks, Maryam Nawaz verified the authenticity of the footage earlier this week.

The validity of the audio tape was called into doubt by a reporter at a news appearance with Maryam. In response to the query, the PML-N leader said that she would neither deny that the voice belongs to her or claim that it has been “manufactured.”

At the time, she said, she was in charge of the party’s media cell. “It is an old audio tape,” she added.

It is important to note that in the audio clip that became popular on social media, Maryam can be heard informing someone that no advertisements would be shown on four television stations that she has identified.
