Lt General Faiz Hameed, a former Director-General of the ISI, formally assumed command of the Corps Commander of Peshawar on Monday morning. Lieutenant-General Nauman Mahmood had stepped down and he assumed leadership.

The news was announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a press statement issued earlier today. In accordance with an ISPR statement, the ceremony for the transfer of command took place at the ISPR’s headquarters in Peshawar.

Lt Gen Faiz Hameed assumed command when Lt Gen Nadeem was formally appointed as the new Director General of the ISI on November 20th. This was addressed in a notice published by the Prime Minister’s Office earlier this month.

According to the statement, the current spymaster, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, “will continue to serve as Director General of the Pakistani Security Intelligence Agency (ISI) until November 19, 2021.”

On Wednesday, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, who is retiring from the army, paid a goodbye visit to President Arif Alvi at the Presidential Palace.

Lt Gen Hameed’s efforts and contributions as Director General of Pakistani Security Intelligence Agency (ISI) for the country’s security were recognised by the president. President Alvi also conveyed his congratulations to Lt Gen Hameed on his appointment as the commander of the Peshawar Corps of the Pakistan Army.

With Lt Gen Faiz Hameed now acting as the Corps Commander, the odds of his becoming the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS) seem to be much more favourable than before.

Lt Gen Faiz Hameed gained popularity as a result of his prior visit to Kabul, which took place last month during the Taliban’s takeover. His visit to Kabul piqued the imagination of people all around the country.

Because Pakistan shares a border with Afghanistan, it has a responsibility to maintain peace and stability in the area in order to protect its own security. Therefore, the ISI Director conducted important talks with his counterpart Najibullah to discuss mutual collaboration.
